| The
elevation of 6,500 to 11,000 feet provides for temperatures
that are often 10-15 degrees cooler than Albuquerque. The mountains
usually get greater levels of precipitation, sometimes in the
form of snow. In fact, the East Mountains has its own ski resort,
Sandi Peak Ski Area. The Cibola National Forrest offers a wealth
of additional recreation. Some examples are hiking, mountain
biking, horseback riding, camping, picnicing, identified dirt
bike trails, sledding, snowshoe races, cross country skiing,
star-gazing and much, much more.
